It actually creates a Public SSH Key. You moved the key but you did not setup the proper file permissions, or did a proper setup of the ssh-agent. If you just generate a new key the gen will take care of that. When you generate is good to have at least a size of 2k, 4k if you want to access more secure environments (some services require minimum 4k).

Can't add SSH key, 'Fingerprint has already been taken' and 'Fingerprint cannot be generated'
I'm trying to add my first SSH key to my profile, but whenever I paste it, I get:
- Fingerprint has already been taken
- Fingerprint cannot be generated

I stripped off the host name, but whether or not I leave it in doesn't matter:
There are no newlines in the key and I haven't added any before, so it's not like it's a duplicate.
